Script Description

Script is capable of requesting driver's estimated time of arrival, driver's location, sending a way point for a driver, sending text message directly to driver via garmin messages and changing fleet name.

Configuration

Inside fmset it's possible to save remaining distance and driver location (according to Garmin navigation, not ours) to a specific sensor. Also possible to select in what way Garmin navigation will receive a new coordinate. There are possible two ways: Send as a Waypoint and to send as a New stop.

Waypoint: Sends a coordinate for a driver (without notification)

New stop: Sends new coordinate for a driver (with notification)

To send coordinates and messages directly to driver via Garmin we're going to need something like wialon to do that.

To send coordinate or message using wialon first we'll need to configure our commands, to do that, select device and press configuration button:

Then, a new window pops (Unit Properties), there, you'll need to select "Commands" and then press "New" button:

Again, a new window will pop up asking you to configure a new command. There you'll enter a command name and select, one out of three commands, that were created specifically for Garmin navigations:

Sending destination point:

When sending destination point, script will insert default destination name with sequential, non repeating destination number and send coordinates directly to Garmin navigation using a method you've selected inside fmset.

First uncheck "without parameters" and then enter your desired coordinates like in the image below:

Sending message for a driver via Garmin:

To send a message for a driver via Garmin, you'll need to select command type "Send a message to a driver" and uncheck "without parameters.

Popup checkbox: this checkbox allows user to choose how driver is going to receive the message. If you were to place check mark onto checkbox - the message is going to be shown immediately. If you were not to place check onto checkbox - only a notification will be shown that a new message has been receiver, but not shown immediately.

For a third step, simply type in your message and press "OK"

Sending destination point with a custom name:

Using this function you'll be able to replace default name with your own custom name. To do this type in coordinates and then name using format shown in the image below:

Sending message or coordinates:

Now that new command is configured and ready, to send it we'll select "Execute a Command" menu inside wialon:

In the new window, we'll select newly created command and click "OK":

Connection

To connect our device you're going to need fleet management cable which is being sold by Garmin. Once you'll have the cable do the following:

  • Yellow Garmin FMI wire connects with our blue RS232 RX wire

  • White Garmin FMI wire connects with our purple RS232 TX wire

  • Brown and black Garmin FMI wires connects with common ground

  • Red Garmin FMI wire connects with positive 12V
