CAN-bus configuration

CAN-bus configuration

Standard CAN bus parameters can be received using FMS500 StCAN device. For more parameters, use FMS500 Tacho. For full list of possible parameters and statuses from CAN bus, use FMS500 XtCAN.

a) Physical connection.

Xirgo Global devices have inputs for 2 CAN bus lines, so you can connect one or two CAN buses at the same time. CAN1 has orange wires, CAN2 - yellow wires.

Note. It does not mean that to CAN1 of device should be connected only the first CAN bus line of vehicle. CAN input can support any CAN line. The same with CAN2 input.

Xirgo Global do not take responsibility to provide connection points to CAN line on vehicle side. We recommend consulting about it with official services.

Nevertheless, we share schematics of connection points to CAN bus of vehicles, we had experience with. It can be found in FMSet configurator:

Then Search the Model you want to find and check results.
Models column - is a name of device program to read this data (later you will need to configure it in Device Settings). Notes column - is list of available sensors to receive. Installation guide - is schematics where to connect on vehicle's side.

Note. As described before, full list of status sensors will be received with advanced devices, like FMS500 XtCAN.

b) Adjustments in Logic Template.

The next step is to configure the device which CAN program it should read and which parameters it should request from CAN bus. This configuration should be done in Logic template, assigned to device.

Firstly, configure device to use CAN BASE B on engine run and off, when engine is not running:

Note. In order to not drain the battery of the vehicle, set CAN line to sleep during parking (in the example above, it's when IN7 is off).

Then choose which parameters you want to be sent to platform:

Note. If the parameter is marked, the device will send it to the platform. But if it is not supported by vehicle, it will always be zero, or sending default value. In such case, just unmark it in Logic Template to save data consumption.

c) Adjustments in Device Settings.

The last thing to be done, is to set a particular CAN reading program for the device. It can be done in Device Settings, in Devices tab.

If you used Installation Guide from "CAN Files" tab, program name is written in the same row in Models column.
