Installation description

This section includes recommendations and guidelines on installation process.

  1. CAN2 line of our device is used to read tachograph data

  2. CAN line on the tachograph is situated in the back of the unit.

  3. In most cases connectors on the tachograph side are sealed. Only authorized service, which made the installation can take of the seal.

  4. C connector must be empty. CAN2 line cannot be connected together with original vehicle monitoring system, f.e. Dynafleet; FleetBoard etc.)

  5. Digital tachograph must be activated (remote download enabled).

  6. Regular CAN data can be obtained in the back of the tachograph as well (A connector). Connection should be done using contactless reader (S-CAN).

  7. For retrieving accurate real time data, you must connect to D8 serial communication port

Note. Depending on vehicle model, year and modification, it might have FMS gateway. This gateway contains all tachograph information. In such case, CAN2 line can be connected to FMS connector instead of C connector in the back of the tachograph.



I. Installation guidelines when connected directly to digital tachograph.

a) Standard 8 pin connector must be inserted in the back of the tachograph;

b) C7 and C8 pins should be connected together (unless there is 120 Ω resistance between C5 and C7 already);

c)  CAN High and CAN Low wires should be connected accordingly to the second line of FMS500 Tacho unit;




II. Installation guidelines when connecting through FMS gateway.

 III. D8 (sometimes called K-line) serial data output connection for retrieving real-time data.

Sometimes D8 connection can be called K-line.

Note. If D8 is not connected, real time statuses will be read from CAN2 line.

After connecting D8, it should be configure in Logic templates of device, by identifying type of tachograph in 5.o 1W_Function fields.
