S-CAN Wireless Reader

S-CAN Wireless Reader

S-CAN- contactless reader option allows the CAN Bus interface to read vehicle CAN Bus data without any actual metal to metal connection between the interface and the vehicle CAN Bus. It is used in light and heavy duty vehicles that supports generic CAN bus communication.

It is important to understand that data read by CAN requests require direct communication, if you are uncertain about data available through wireless connection contact our support for assistance

2. Adjustments in Configuration

2.1 Configuring CAN Line

To configure device to work with 1-wire temperature sensors in XDM configuration template under ‘Hardware'->’CAN{selected can line}'->'CAN function ID' set ‘CAN function' to desired setting.

For this example we will choose 'CAN_base_b on IN7', which means device will start reading data as soon as IN7 (engine running) is set to 1:

2.2 Selecting Vehicle

Then we need to select vehicle model. Go to ‘Hardware'->’CAN{selected can line}'->'Vehicle model' set Vehicle model to vehicle device was installed.

For this example 'Toyota Yaris' is selected:

Required sensors that can be read from vehicle needs to be added to payload:

Need to know that some vehicles can send certain parameters (especially Fuel level) by requests only. In such case, it will not be supported by wireless reader, as in order to send requests to the system of vehicle, it is essential to have direct connection.

Requirements of direct connection are marked by symbol "*" in the list of parameters, for example:

3. S-CAN Installation

Split CAN bus line wires ~5cm and insert S-CAN between the lines. S-CAN has CAN-Low and CAN-High marked on it, place the wire on it accordingly. If S-CAN LED lights up, it means differential signal has been detected and data is now being read.

Confirm that XG device is reporting data to your telemetry server, if no data is visible try swapping CAN-Low and CAN-High cables, then check telemetry data again. After confirmation fasten can wire with provided zip-ties.
